From the author of the beloved Millsborough Sisters series comes this exuberant prequel. Alice Kingston and her cousin Fanny Kingston Blackwood are immersed in the vivacious world of Georgian London when they receive an invitation to a house party in a little village called Fairsbury. Fanny, still reeling from the death of her father at the hands of smugglers, and Alice, a happy-go-lucky spinster who has no head for romance, soon find themselves besotted and over their heads in the English countryside. The Tenant of Stanford House
Against his friends' advice, Londoner James Burden has bought Stanford House, a grand but delapidated country estate. It comes complete with ancient castlellated wing, stables, rolling moors, enchanting woodland, and a nearby village whose inhabitants continue to spread all manner of rumors about Stanford House and its former inhabitants. Burden sets about enjoying his new-found role as country squire, with plans to renovate Stanford and its vast gardens, and quiet evenings indulging his passion for reading. In purchasing the estate, however, he must also abide by a strange and alluring condition: he must keep the former Mistress of Stanford on as housemaid. Magda Sullivan is quiet, beautiful, and helplessly alone. When her husband died in a tragic accident, he had left her nothing but debt and the estate, and so has no choice but to remain as the current owner’s servant. But there is something else besides this rather unconventional arrangement… something lurking, hidden in the evermore dense and strange fog which blankets the whole area and seeps in through the leaded windows. Soon, Burden is on a dangerous path to discover what might have really happened to Magda's late husband, Geoff Sullivan, as well as the other former tenants of Stanford House.
Pinewood Dark:
Millsborough Sisters #2
Unmarried and with-child, Jenny Millsborough has been saved from total ruination by her family, who help fashion her as the fictitious widow of a drowned soldier. Happy to be living at Oxtail Cottage, she is sheltered from the prying eyes of Society. Nearby lives her beloved sister Georgiana, Lady Shaw. Their Cotswolds village is home to both the ruling family and the Jennings family, to whom both sisters are related. But it is also home to Pinewood Forest, a dark, mysterious conduit for restless souls. When an extravagant ball at Fairsbury Manor promises festive distraction, little does Jenny know the event will bring a reunion with an unrequited love. But with the possibility of renewed romance, comes the threat of scandal and forced marriage to the rogue who left her in dire circumstances. The sudden outbreak of a mysterious winter plague will force Jenny to return to Coombe Mara, the Medieval estate on the Devonshire coast belonging to her former love, Edward Forester. As secrets are uncovered, Jenny and Edward will either discover a love that defies fate itself, or be torn apart forever. Pinewood Dark is the second installment in the Millsborough Sisters series.
